Volunteer with us!

Lolly Jar Circus is South Australia’s only inclusive social circus. Our participants' achievements go beyond their circus classes and into the rest of their lives. We improve young people's physical health, strength, flexibility, confidence, and social skills.

Our participants come from diverse backgrounds, and many have experienced social isolation. We give them more than just circus classes; we provide a safe place to belong and where friendships are made.

Social circus is an alternative pedagogical method used to create social change. Circus tricks are not the end goal but the tools through which young people find their place within their community. We want to continue to improve the lives of young people through our own social circus school.

Volunteer Opportunities

We are always looking for passionate volunteers to join our Lolly Jar Circus family! There are three main ways you can get involved:

Volunteer Assistant Trainers

Do you have a background in circus, gymnastics, Capoeira, physio, OT, psychology, or eager to learn? Are you fit and strong?

We need volunteer assistant trainers to support our paid trainers in teaching and spotting tumbling, stilt-walking, and juggling. You’ll be supervised at all times and will only be asked to do work within your capabilities. Additionally, you may provide emotional support to participants, alongside our paid trainers.

Volunteer Equipment Maintenance

Help us keep our circus equipment in top shape! As a volunteer equipment maintainer, you’ll ensure our tools are safe and clean. Tasks include washing juggling balls and scarves, wiping down other juggling equipment and gymnastic foam shapes, vacuuming safety mats, maintaining unicycles, and repairing fraying juggling equipment.

Volunteer Event Helpers

If you prefer to volunteer occasionally, this role is perfect for you! Help us during events like birthday parties, fundraisers, and performances. Tasks include serving food and drinks, selling raffle tickets or supervising silent auctions, and setting up and putting away chairs.

Requirements

Lolly Jar Circus is committed to all participants’ safety and welfare. We require volunteers to have the following certificates before their first volunteer shift:

●      Working with Children Check (WWCC) – we can initiate this for you, free of charge

●      Mandatory Reporting Certificate – available online (please note this course can be distressing at times - we recommend you do it in stages and talk to someone if you find anything upsetting)

●      NDIS Module on respecting the wishes of people with disabilities – a short course available here

●      Lolly Jar Circus training - provided by us
